Routine Work and Leisure Time

(Edited)

Over time, I became a creature of habit much more than I want to admit.

I have my own daily schedule, which, even if it's not a 9-5 work schedule, it's still a routine that is hard to escape.

I don't know if you feel it sometimes.

While routine helps us be more productive with repetitive tasks, when something unexpected comes up to take away a huge chunk of time, it leaves you unprepared. Now what? How do I squeeze all the tasks in the amount of time I have left?

Of course we prioritize. Some tasks make it in the remaining time, some don't.

But if you are not used to switch between a regular day schedule and one with a lot of work breaks or a much shorter work day, it isn't easy. Or at least it isn't easy for me.

This week I had and will continue to have some planned leisure time, the celebration of one of my nieces' birthday and possibly more. That was and I expect will continue to be quality time spent with friends and/or family!

Luckily for me, when leisure time starts, I don't have a problem switching off my thoughts about work, and I have a great time. Others do have this issue and carry work issues with them all day long.

But I am also stressed before that, trying to fit in as much of the work as possible in the available time.

Usually after a leisure time, I have trouble switching back into the work mode, even if it wasn't in the evening, and even if I don't drink alcohol. So I stopped trying. My work day ends before the leisure time starts.

Yesterday evening we went to the theater. A wonderful performance by three of the best actors we still have alive. Actually four actors, but I didn't know the last one. He certainly had a spectacular entrance though, and perfect for his role.

Sometimes I feel the need for routine and sometimes I can't wait for a bit of "chaos". Never found the balance and decide whether I am a routine guy or the one that handles everything anytime. What actors are you writing about?

Malaiele, Morgentern and Mihaita in "The Blacksmiths" (Romanian play).

Taking a break is an important thing... I remember in the past when I was working 3-4 YEARS without a free day... And when I have taken a break, returned to the job... and quit... :)

But, it was a positive thing... Because, I can't continue living like that...

3-4 years without a break is a long time... I can only imagine how that is, because I haven't done that. But I did have 2 jobs+the master's degree simultaneously at one point. We can take a lot when we're young(er)...

I hear ya on finding that balance... it can be difficult. One solution may be to outsource some of your work if possible??

Sounds like it was an amazing show... its good to treat yourself. :)
