Sorry I am getting carried away. Lol.

Tips and Tricks 8 – Type of Attack Weapon

Your mission should you chose to accept it is to eliminate your enemy before they eliminate you. Lol. I got carried away with the “Mission Impossible” catch phrase. Now, in Splinterlands we have three main types of assault weapon which I assume everyone already knows but I’ll list them here as it is written on the splinterlands how to play page since this post is meant for beginners and those struggling to move up the ladder.

Melee Attack melee attack.jpg

This means you’re slashing at the enemy up close. Under normal circumstances, the attacker must be in the front row. Damage is assigned to the enemy Armor before health is affected. Chance to miss.

Ranged Attack ragended attack.jpg

The character attacks from a distance. Unable to attack from the front row. Damage is assigned to the enemy Armor before health is affected. Chance to miss.

Magic Attack magic attack.jpg

Characters with magic attack may do damage from any row. Not only that, this form of attack ignores the defender’s Armor STAT (damage is applied directly to health). There is no miss chance. It always hits.

Now, it is important to understand that a lot changes when monsters have abilities that allow them to bend the rule when they possess the various attack weapons which leads up to the next topic. I will be listing the special abilities and how you can counter those abilities to make sure your rare end isn’t weak such that the enemy penetrates your defense.

Tips and Tricks 9 – Sneak Ability And Counter Measures

Monsters with the sneak ability will target the last Monster on the enemy line. Majority of the sneak monsters on Splinterlands are melee attack monsters, though we do have a few that are ranged and magic attack. Again, I can’t over emphasize on the need to spy on your enemy lineup to get an idea what sneak monsters they are using.

  • If your enemy is using a melee attack monster for their sneak attack then you best add monster with Thorn ability as your last monster. This will ensure that each time the sneak monster hits your last monster it loses 2 points from its health. In this case both parties suffer damages and in some cases the sneak attack monsters dies after two hits while your last monster still has some health remaining.

  • If your enemy is using a magic attack monster for their sneak attack then you should put a monster that has the magic reduce and reflect monster. This will ensure that the damage is reduced and the attack monster receive have the damage it causes.

  • If your enemy is using a magic attack monster for their snipe attack then you should put a monster that has the magic reflect monster. This will ensure that the attack monster receive half the damage it causes in a return fire.

  • We can also use self heal monsters as our last monster in our line of defense especially if they join in hitting hard at the enemy. This will ensure that it doesn’t die out during the battle and it also help inflect damages on the enemy line. The ranged and magic attack monsters work well in this regards

Note: You need to level up some of your monsters before they can possess the abilities needed to repel the enemy attack.

Tips and Tricks 10 – Snipe Ability And Counter Measures

Monsters with the snipe ability will target any Monster on the enemy line with the Ranged, Magic or no attack at all and that is also not in the first position except in a case where the first monster is the only monster remaining. On like the sneak monsters where the majority are melee attack monsters, for snipe attack majority of the snipe monsters on Splinterlands are ranged attack monsters, though we do have a few that are magic attack monsters.

Some snipe monsters

  • I think the easiest way to avoid a snipe attack monster hitting your back line (all monsters behind the tank) is to ensure that all your back line monsters are melee attack monsters. But in doing so you must ensure that the tank and next two monsters have very good health and can hit and deplete the enemy tank quickly. This is because if the snipe monsters, the tank and other monsters target your tank then that tank should be a durable that can last long enough for your own monsters to cause greater damage to the enemy team. If your tank finally gives way, the next monster should also be a tough monster to delete.

  • The second strategy to counter a snipe monster attack is by choosing range or magic attack monsters that self heal or monsters that return fire. A monster like Cornealus as seen in the image below, when leveled up to max it can be a cause of problem for snipe attack monsters. At the max level it has self heal, has thorns, returns reduce return hit at an enemy that hits it with a ranged and does reduced hit at the enemy monster that hits it with a magic attack.

How time flies when I am writing about splinterlands stuff is amazing! Like I said at the beginning of the topic, I am no expert, we are all learning, new monsters are coming out recently and we keep trying to figure out how best to use them to build a formidable team. We are also having to see new rules of play and they are making the game more complex strategy wise.

I’ll find time to drop another tips and trick soon, I hope to hear your feedbacks and hope to see you in the battle field soon.

Congrats on getting to Champions @ketcom. That's really, really impressive. 😁

Your tutorials are great but there's so much information I find it hard trying to analyse my opponents team and don't usually bother. 😁

I'm a bit confused with this one as I think you made a typo.

You say:

If your enemy is using a magic attack monster for their sneak attack then you should

For both the second and third examples. Should the second one be ranged?

Thanks @gratisuntamed, it was a typo error. I have corrected it. It should be snipe attack.
