How can steem evolve?

About two months ago, I wrote a a post about the decrease of posts and authors on the steem blockchain. I'm always interested in how the life on the blockchain evolves and I checked out the metrics again. It was very interesting to notice that the number of posts and also the number of authors posting has stabilized lately (see graph 1 below).

Steem is consolidating

It's comforting to realize that the tendency has been broken and that there is a kind of consolidation of posts and authors. At the same time I believe that the overall quality of posts on the blockchain has increased mainly thanks to #newsteem. Even though there were some harsh aspects about these changes, like the downvote battles, overall the change was really for the better.

I believe that this consolidation was necessary and maybe it will be soon time to start growing on this new basis. So here comes my question. How can steem evolve in the near future?

What are the weak points at the moment?

I'm just one of the many users of this blockchain and maybe I see it totally wrong, but I believe that there are several problems that should be adressed:

Onboarding doesn't work

Even if this seems to sound like a broken record. Everybody speaks about onboarding but it hardly works. What can steem offer to new users at the moment? A lot of complexity and hardly a way to make some coins.

Small user frustration

Let's say you joined steem and you are not put off by the complexity of the whole thing. You post something and realize that the payout is really meaningless if you don't post a very good quality article that curators detect. Your upvote is worth 0.000 Steem and you don't even have enough RC to write all the comments that you want. People don't give upvotes to comments anymore and well you are just stuck and what reasons do you have not to give up?

The way to some weight is very long

If you want to grow organically on steem and start with zero, well good night. It will take you ages just to see your upvote being worth 0.01 Usd. If you join steem and you see how much steem power you need to have at least a little influence and also some curation rewards, then you need to invest first and you rather have to invest some significant amount of money that most users simply can't afford.

Is there a solution?

All the efforts being put in onboarding new users is actually wothless if there are no measures taken to keep them on steem and to provide a way for them to grow organically. There should be another way for users to be able to earn steem that doesn't necessarily involve authoring or curating articles. What are your suggestions? What do you think?

Thanks for the fine points raised in this post. Really, the unboarding problem needs to be solved and solved as fast as possible. As for newbies earning Steem, it is an unfortunate situation. But for the sake of Steem's economics newbies may have to either invest or manage whatever they get. Free Steem for all, is doom for all.

Thanks a lot for your comment!
I agree with you that free steem for all is not a solution but I think it would be great if it was possible to "earn" steem in a different way. There are tons of sites where you can get btc but there are none which offer steem...

I have a question: have you seen if the creators of this platform have looked for a solution that solves this problem? Shouldn't they provide a solution that prevents the forgetfulness of Steemit?

Another question: Can the Steemit blockchain be used for more than just posting? I don't mean just games but give it a business character?

Can it be used by an institution for its administrative, accounting or financial systems? 👀

Thank you very much for your comment.
What I can see is that the creators of this platform and the witnesses running it have implemented things that go into the opposite direction. Whereas it was still possible to earn some coins by giving witty comments, this has disapeared completely now. There is less interaction as a result.

Another question: Can the Steemit blockchain be used for more than just posting? I don't mean just games but give it a business character?

I think that this is a very interesting question. People tend to be limited by the social media character of steem but in a way steem is a currency like all the cryptocurrencies out there. There is a big difference however - transactions are free and immediate. Why are people not taking advantage of that?

I've been running crypto faucets and giving away btc, doge, ltc for free for several years. Now the microwallet service that I was using is closing down because of the autorities. It would be so great to use steem instead because I would need no middle man that could close down my business !

I think that we still don't see the whole set of possibilities that steem has to offer...

I didn't know one could make a profit running crypto faucets.

I had not noticed that the great opportunity in the advantage that there is no fee and how instantaneous are the transactions in Steemit.

You could gestate good ideas :D

Hello dear @happyvoter, very good post.

There should be another way for users to be able to earn steem that doesn't necessarily involve authoring or curating articles. What are your suggestions? What do you think?

Dear friend, if there is no way for that to happen this is my idea:

In steemit there must be a tool that allows you to monitor all the accounts that are created daily, if that is the case, we must use this, correct me if I am wrong.

If we have that possibility, what can be done is that those who govern steem must create one or more accounts with the necessary steem power to take care of all the new content creators that arrive at the platform and guarantee a daily automatic vote to these people for a certain time, in order to help them in their growth and maintain motivation.

We already know of all the efforts made by the communities that make life in steem, what the tribes are doing to help the new ones, but we all know that it is not enough, @happyvoter, @help.venezuela and @project.hope among others initiatives are clear examples of this.

That is the idea that I have a friend.

Friend @happyvoter
It is very difficult to know what happens in these types of situations, however, within the same reading you give some consequence of what happens.

Now I realize that there must always be a motivation. When I entered here I did it because they told me many good things about the platform and one of them was that we received a payment to publish, in principle I was very exeptical but when I made my first publication and I realized that it was true to get hooked at once.

But not everyone is the same, and the reason is that you also have to like what you do here, if you do not like it and only goods for the money when you have lost just do not follow. and that happens to most who have abandoned, I think they think they will become millionaires at once. record error on their part.

Here constancy works.

Hi, Thanks a lot for your comment. You are totally right, there needs to be a motivation for people to continue their journey

The fall of September 1 really is very marked.
I remember that I read your article about the decrease not only of the publications but also of the users, that was worrisome, but if it is stabilizing, because when you can less rejoice, one may have stopped falling.
I share what you say that there is not much attraction or attraction for new members of the community, I want to believe in the project, but I really know that my vote is worth almost nothing, that if I vote in the comments I stay dry so fast that It does not make sense and that at the beginning my resources do not let me write many posts ... in fact, I cannot even make many comments, that anyway they would not possibly yield anything, because I already said what is strange that at present someone Vote for comments.
I wonder how viable it would be to add a STEEM Minar capability ... I think I saw something like that on the EoBot site, but I remember that it does not allow withdrawals in STEEM directly ... if it could be undermined, it would be an option to use resources when I'm not working on the computer and I can resolve hashes...

Thanks a lot for your comment. I can really understand what it feels like to be here with little steem power and to struggle to build up something.

I don't know whether mining would be the solution because you need some infrastructure and if you have infrastructure it means that you have the money to buy it and therefore it would be better to invest directly into SP and get curation rewards.

Regards appreciated friend @happyvoter.

I would like to know how you prepare your statistics and especially those nice graphics. I imagine these figures are based exclusively on "Steemit". Or maybe you are considering the whole blockchain?

Anyway, it is curious to me that most people who come to Steemit just thinking about monetizing seeking the vote of the curators.

You post something and realize that the payout is really meaningless if you don't post a very good quality article that curators detect.

I think steemit gives us a space to express ourselves, it is a public gallery with worldwide access, a huge stage for people everywhere to see our work.
I have a great neighbor friend of my community who is a great photographer, sculptor and a bohemian artist. For years his work only had me and our close group of friends as witnesses and critics. Since my friend started posting on steemit, many people became interested in his art and then he began receiving job applications. This is just an example.

ps: I think your figures are very close to those shown in these @dalz charts. These correspond to the accounts created in Octube 2019 and the number of publications made by these same accounts.

Your friend, Juan.

Hi my friend,

Thanks a lot for your comment. You are totally right about the above. People simply don't realize the value to have a free webspace where you can connect to the world.

Achim

Thanks for the chart. Just love stats. I have this hope that Steem wants to morph into a more interactive platform. I am not all that familiar with SMTs, but I hope they serve to empower users and make discussions more intimate.

For instance, if you and I have an interest, say aviation, that few of our contacts have, then Steem or another dChain should be able to facilitate our digtial connection.

Twitter and Facebook can do this, but THEY profit off of our unique interests. I really hope that Steem is not seeking to control the information flow. If so, info will only become stagnant as we users burn out our interests and make no real life progress through the platform.
