L'utente A decide di mettere in powering down 1,000 Steem Power:

  • La prima settimana percepirebbe 5% di questa somma, quindi 50 steem con 950 SP ancora da ricevere;
  • la seconda settimana percepirebbe 10% di 950 SP --> 95 steem con 855 SP ancora da ricevere;
  • la terza settimana percepirebbe 20% di 855 SP --> 171 steem con 684 SP ancora da ricevere;
  • la quarta settimana percepirebbe 30% di 684 SP --> 205.20 steem con 476.80 SP ancora da ricevere;
  • la quinta settimana percepirebbe 40% di 476.80 SP --> 191.52 steem con 285.28 SP ancora da ricevere;
  • la sesta settimana percepirebbe 50% dei 285.28 SP, quindi 142.60 steem con 142.60 SP ancora da ricevere;

  1. Prima settimana dal powering down:
    A) 76.92 steem
    B) 142.85 steem
    C) 50.00 steem
  2. Seconda settimana dal powering down:
    A) 153.84 steem
    B) 285.70 steem
    C) 145.00 steem
  3. Seconda settimana dal powering down:
    A) 230.76 steem
    B) 428.57 steem
    C) 316.00 steem

Carlo (@miti)

Hello everybody,

I realize that talking about it after a bug that kept Steem blockchain blocked for over a day is quite paradoxical and may sound a little strange, but I was imagining this article even before the Hard Fork 21/22, so I'll publish it anyway.

By now I believe that we have all come to the realization that one of the primary objectives for Steem's blockchain of the next months/years is to attract investors.
I'm not talking about traders interested in buying at a price and trying to sell higher, but real investors, that is those who are interested in creating a business within Steem or bringing theirs in our blockchain.
In fact, only in this way could we see an increase in steem quotations with the rise in the cryptocurrency ranking based on market capitalization (see coinmarketcap) which would attract further interest on our blockchain. In addition to generating enthusiasm with the consequent revitalization of the entire community.
The main problem is to study ways of attracting investor interest.

Certainly the difficulty does not lie in the quality of the blockchain or in the applications for which it can be exploited, as we all know that the characteristics of Steem are among the best (if not the best) of the whole sector.
The problem perhaps lies in the communication outside the blockchain, a true dilemma that has always been affecting Steem, but for which things have recently been moving but with poor results.

So I thought: what could be one of the reasons that discourage a potential investor from approaching Steem?
In my opinion one of the reasons could be the long period for the powering down procedure, that is the period necessary for the unstake (ie the release) of the Steem Power so that they return to the condition of steem and therefore usable as liquid tokens or to be withdrawn.
Period that currently consists of a 13 week of waiting in which 1/13 of the sum that is destined to this procedure, is paid every week.

Imagine a little bit ... 13 weeks for investors to get back ownership of their staked funds. Although I agree that if you decide to bind tokens to earn some Steem then it is right that in order to unstake them there must be a certain waiting period to ensure the stability of the token market, I believe that the blockchain today is decidedly more mature to be able to face a reduction of this period of powering down without incurring a certain instability.

Let's put ourselves in the shoes of an investor who decides to bring or develop his business in Steem's blockchain and who therefore decides to block a certain amount of steem in Steem Power in order to have influence in the blockchain, to be exploited as he sees fit to develop the own project.
For him the idea of having to wait for a 13-week powering-down period could be highly disincentivising and cover a decisive motivation in forgoing the investment itself.

Attention, I'm not saying it's the main motivation, but one of the causes that added to others could push the investor to look elsewhere.

In my opinion at this point you could evaluate at least two valid alternatives (I repeat, in my opinion).

REDUCE THE POWERING DOWN PERIOD TO HALF OF THE CURRENT ONE.

If we currently have to wait 13 weeks to put token into unstake, I think it might be less daunting to wait 7 weeks (1/7 of unstake per week). Let's face it frankly, I don't think it could produce negative effects on Steem's ecosystem but on the contrary it could incentivize the same authors or curators who would see the reduction of the powering down period as an extra motivation to do so; in my opinion, this would happen especially in periods with low quotations because the less time needed for unstake could convince authors and curators to keep hoping for a resumption of prices in a short time .. consequently less unstake and perhaps more powering up would have direct consequences on steem quotes.

REDUCE THE POWERING DOWN PERIOD TO 7 WEEKS WITH INCREASING PERCENTAGE RATES AND NOT AT FIXED RATE.

This point needs to be explained a little more in detail. If currently the powering down requires 13 weeks in which every week is put into unstake 1/13 of the quantity subjected to the procedure and in the previous example I had proposed to bring this time to 7 weeks and 1/7 every week, my proposal represents a completely different system.
In fact I think we could bring the powering down period to 7 weeks in which the user would not get back in possession of 1/7 of the total put in unstake at week but of increasing percentages. I give a practical example.

User A decides to power down 1,000 Steem Power:

  • The first week he would receive 5% of this sum, then 50 steem with 950 SP still to be received;
  • the second week he would receive 10% of 950 SP -> 95 steem with 855 SP still to be received;
  • the third week he would receive 20% of 855 SP -> 171 steem with 684 SP still to be received;
  • the fourth week he would receive 30% of 684 SP -> 205.20 steem with 476.80 SP still to be received;
  • the fifth week he would receive 40% of 476.80 SP -> 191.52 steem with 285.28 SP still to be received;
  • the sixth week he would receive 50% of the 285.28 SP, therefore 142.60 steem with 142.60 SP still to be received;
  • the fifth week would receive the last remaining part, then 142.60 SP.

What would be the real advantages of this type of approach? A reduction in powering down times that could be an excellent incentive for investors (but also for authors and curators) with a less impact on the first 3 weeks of powering down and therefore with less impact on the token market.
Let's make a practical comparison where we power down 1000 SP and with A we identify the current situation (13 weeks and 1/13 per week), with B the first example I made (7 weeks and 1/7 per week) and with C the case just explained; let's see how many SPs will be put into unstake week by week.

  1. First week of powering down:
    A) 76.92 steem
    B) 142.85 steem
    C) 50.00 steem
  2. Second week from powering down:
    A) 153.84 steem
    B) 285.70 steem
    C) 145.00 steem
  3. Second week from powering down:
    A) 230.76 steem
    B) 428.57 steem
    C) 316.00 steem

As we can see from the example, the solution C despite the reduction of the powering down window to 7 weeks, has a less impact on the market; even the first week and the second week from the beginning of the procedure is the one that has the least impact by going to constitute a middle ground between the solution A and B.

I am convinced that the time for change has come, as steem has its market and I do not think that a reduction in the time of powering down could have negative effects, or at least these can certainly not be more important than the beneficial effects that could have a reduction in unstake times.

If we take for example the tokens of the various communities that have arisen thanks to the steem engine, we can see that many of them have already reduced the period of powering down without suffering from particular problems and seeing mass sales. For example, CLICK TRACK PROFIT (CPT) has a poweing down period of just two weeks, PALNET and STEEMLEO have 4 weeks instead.
This leads me to be more and more convinced that a halving of the powering down period can be a great confidence boost for the whole blockchain!

And what do you think? If the idea also convinces you, make resteem of this post and who knows that this proposal is not really taken into consideration!

Greetings,
Carlo (@miti)
