Hi guys I thought I would share a Commemorative that I had deep in the bottom of the stack!
Actually I'm not sure about this one, Silvertop might have added this to the family stack ....Or this might have come into the stack from Mrs Silvertop parents.......😳

Don't tell @elizabethbit LoL !!!😀😇😍

This is an interesting Half Dollar, a 1952 George Washington Carver Booker T Washington Commemorative.

Just some specifications :
Diameter 30.60 mm
Reeded edge
Minted from 1951 to 1954
90% Silver with ASW .361707
Weight 12.50g
Mintage 2,006,000

The Obverse has both George Washington Carver and Booker T Washington, and interesting on the Reverse there is a map of the United States and the phrase " FREEDOM AND OPPORTUNITY FOR ALL AMERICANISM "

A direct Quote from President Theodore Roosevelt, "Americanism is a question of spirit, conviction, and purpose, not of creed or birthplace."

From what I have read this coin wasn't that popular, and many were returned to the mint and melted.
This is a very we'll circulated coin, although I personally never saw one of these as a kid in pocket change...

I found a Silver melt calculator on line and this coin at 12.50g accounting only for the Silver content would be $6.5539

This one is going back home in the stack!!!🤗

Silvertop .....Mike😀

Popular or not, halves are a nice size for commemorative themes. One of my favorites is the World Columbus Exposition commemorative 1893.

This was the last of the "Old Commemoratives". Collectors did not want to hear anymore about half-dollars commems that were minted for several years in several mints with high premiums. A whole era ended with it, to begin again in 1982 with the Modern Commemoratives.

Very interesting, I was not a collector of the older Commemoratives so I went researching and discovered exactly what you are saying..
I'm learning something new !!!
Have a wonderful Saturday my friend!!!😀

I love the old commemoratives, and my favorite is the California commemorative, and the Oregon Trail commemorative (both of which I do not have). I do have several commemorative half dollar coins in their original box and COA. Wouldn't it be great if we can collect them all, @silvertop?
Have a wonderful Saturday, my friend, and take care🥰🌺🤙
