Magic Tricks

As children we are often amazed by the magic tricks. Well, some aren't, and they always play the non-believer role.

As adults, we may enjoy some magic tricks, but we no longer believe they are magic. And we often watch and think: ok, so how did he do it? and imagine possibilities. But this way, we lose the magic in those tricks and that's all that's left: reality - tricks of the mind.

I thought as I laid in bed before writing this post, that there's another kind of magic we tend to lose by being curious but not committed to a long journey: the magic of discovery.

So, what is this magic of discovery?

It can be many things, of course, but in the context described above I was thinking to something more like the scenario below:

Peter meets his friend Richard who is (relatively) successful at what he does. Peter is curious about Richard's success, so he asks him how did he became successful in his business, and what did he do to become successful overnight?

Even though Peter and Richard didn't see or hear from each other for years, Richard's success seemed like overnight to Peter, thinking in comparison with him.

At this point Richard laughed and reminded Peter they haven't seen each other for over 12 years, so that's how long it took him to become an overnight success.

Peter: OK, so how did you do it?

Richard: One step at a time. With patience, commitment and determination. At every new step in your journey you will discover something new about you and your business.

Peter: I get it, just say that you don't want to share your secret!

Richard: That's the secret! It's the magic of discovery.

Peter: Right...

Richard: You were always an impatient guy, Peter, looking for quick fixes. I see you haven't changed much.
