Sustainable Solutions – Agricultural technology

According to a new report by the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), the global production of farmed Atlantic salmon is expected to rise by c. 6.5% in 2019, to c. 2.6m metric tons, marking the highest yoy increase since 2014.

Sustainable Solutions – Foodtech

A series of data points indicating that hard seltzers are not a fad an increasingly taking share from other alcoholic beverage categories – not just beer.

In a move aimed at promoting consistency across the plant-based alternatives category, the Plant Based Foods Association (PBFA) has issued a set of voluntary labelling standards for plant-based meats, specifying that manufacturers can describe their alternatives referring to the conventional meat they are aiming to mimic, but must include a prominent reference such as ‘plant-based’ or ‘vegetarian’.

The loss of hundreds of million pigs due to the African swine fever in China has begun to have an effect on world food prices, with the Food and Agriculture Organisation’s (FAO) Food Price Index reaching a 26 month high last month, driven by an 18% increase in global meat prices (the largest increase in eight years).

Have to go up and google what Hard Seltzer actually is. LOL. Clearly I have been living in Asia FAR TOO LONG.

Nice round up, as always.

Not trying to look down on the post or anything but how is the rise of salmon production beneficial to sustainability? Or are the news about things that also harm sustainability?

Hello there, thank you for commenting.
The good news about salmons is that the supply of salmon is increasing by 6.5% which is a good growth. The harvest will also increase but only by 4%. Leaving more salmons for future years.
But overall, yes salmon is not very good for the planet 😕
