RE: Nothing Beats A Failure

I once took a job managing a non-profit. I told the board in my hiring interview that I'd give them 5 years. If I was doing my job right I'd piss off 10% of the people every year and in 5 years I'd be sacked.

I was wrong. It only took me two years :) But I did damn good work and left lasting process and attitudes behind me.

My mistakes are just as meaningful in where I am today as my successes. And today I'm in a pretty good place.

I love the 'no judgement zone'. What a great idea. Syd and I had a red index card that lived on top of the TV (usually with a stinking cat on top of it). When one of us had a 'problem' we'd walk to the TV and prop the card up. Meant fight rules were on and we weren't held to as strict a standard as far as what we'd say when we were considered. It let us both fire away without worrying excessively about the words themselves so much as the context. It was never displayed for long and it certainly helped us to get right to the heart of whatever instead of dancing around.
