Open World Time Travel Game
I was relaxing after a stressful day watching YouTube and this video was suggested:
PRO TIP: If you ever want to specifically target me for clickbait or make me click a link I really probably shouldn't then using the words "Stole A Time Machine" is the way to do that. It overrides my free will.
But unlike so many other times the YouTube algorithm has let me down this turned out to be rather interesting. I watched a few other gaming videos after the one above talking about this game and it seems most people have only good things to say about it.
This game is titled "No Time" and is developed and published by Lost in Days Studio. According to the product's Steam page:
After you escaped with a time machine from a secret facility you go on a trip through time. Visit all possible time periods with specific jobs and quests for each of them. But watch out for the Time Agents. And avoid yourself!
The common thing I heard watching the YouTube videos was that it's like Back to the Future. I guess for copyright purposes any similarity between this game and any intellectual property owned by Amblin Entertainment or Universal Pictures is parody. If this was a game I was developing I'd have chosen any other speed than 88 MPH because that's a little too on the nose. Even 142 kilometers per hour to achieve time warp would probably be a safer way of avoiding Hollywood lawyers.
Apparently the character being played in this open world simulation is more Time Lord than Marty McFly. It seems you can just leave your time machine transportation out in the open no matter where in history the quest takes you to. No hiding it behind a roadside sign or under a tarp. Heck, just leave the car's gull-wing door up and walk away from the car to explore. Why should that be a problem?
Another similarity I saw in the game videos to Back to the Future is the fuel. In the game's beginning the time machine runs on radioactive uranium but can be later upgraded to a fusion reactor. When the radioactive material is depleted you can just swap it out for a new canister without wearing a hazmat or radiation suit. Sure, why not? The character doesn't care about anybody stealing his car after he stole it from a secret facility so why worry about cancer? YOLO!
Between leaving the time machine unlocked and having such a cavalier attitude toward nuclear material in the game I am starting to wonder if the Time Agents are actually the good guys in the game trying to protect the character from himself and others.
