Why am I here? How did I get to Hive?

I never really made a post about how I got to HIVE and why I am still around. So I thought I would take advantage of the initiative in this post to talk about it. I hope my story is enjoyable for you.

How did I get to HIVE?

Well it is a really interesting story but I thought I would start off with how I encountered crypto. I had my first encounter with it when one of my roommates in 2012 or 2013 starting talking to me about Bitcoin. He explained that you could earn Bitcoin by using your computers CPU to hash out complex math problems. Though I think what he was talking about was probably incorrect but it was more about validating the transactions on the block chain. To get a good chance of earning BTC, my roommate asked for me to chip in so he could get a good graphics card to mine BTC. I was promised a portion of his returns but its been so long and I don't even know if he mined any. I only chipped in about $20 at that time so it not a horrible lost to me. But it sure would of been nice to still have those promised returns.

My next encounter with BTC happened to be 2015 or 2016 when I was playing a game called HentaiVerse. I have to say I was interested in many things such as games, anime, manga and web novels. So I stumbled upon this site and their endeavors. It is a RPG game but donating meant that you get extra rewards everyday. I put in $25 of BTC at that time and I consider it the most expensive purchase I have ever done for games (looking at current prices).

Soon after the lockdowns started, I decided to start using the Brave Browser because I thought earning something was better than nothing. Rather than giving my data over to Google or Firefox, the extra few dollars a month sounded like a good choice. Amongst the ads I saw when I first started using Brave was Splinterlands.

Splinterlands was advertised as a game where we owned our own cards and we could also earn DEC which was worth real fiat. It appealed to me and so I paid for the spellbook. At this point in time, I did not realize that I just created a HIVE account. I put some money down to buy some packs and decided to research how to convert my earnings over time into fiat. This lead me to PeakD and how I could earn by blogging about my gaming adventures. It was tough in the beginning as there were was no guides but it was trial and error. I was even tempted to give up the blogging aspect because I was comparing my rewards to others.

Why am I here?

I like the community aspect of HIVE. I still play Splinterlands to this day but it has lead me to other games like Rising Stars and Alien Worlds. I will not lie, I was came over because earing something was better than nothing and I like the fact that you can earn every single day by just engaging with the block chain. I didn't hear anything about Blockchain gaming before Splinterlands so it was a true learning experience. I think it is the future of gaming will definitely change and the new model using NFTs will be the building block for games in the future.

At the same time, there are plenty of great articles and free information available in communities like LeoFinance. I only need to compare myself to the previous month and I can see that my account is growing everyday for my efforts. With that in mind, I decided that I would build my crypto portfolio here in HIVE and it even made me decide to buy some Bitcoin for myself. I have some of it as a HODL and the other part in places earning me some extra BTC.

With a bunch of different investment tokens as well, I think it would be a great way to start building an income stream for the future. I just don't see how HIVE can't become great in the future just based on the new applications being developed. I don't plan to put any fiat into crypto and my lifestyle is good enough that I don't have to take money out.

My goal is to generate enough income so I don't have to worry about work and can do whatever I wish. I think the opportunities in HIVE allow people to compound their earnings and this can be done by increasing your stake, HE tokens and even the new CUB Finance.

Final thoughts

I am interested to know what your story is as well. I think there are many different ways enter the HIVE block chain and everyone has different expectations and reasons to do so. Feel free to make a post using the #whyamihere tag to let everyone else know.

Gaming seems to be a gateway to crypto for many people.

Yea I think gaming is definitely an easy gateway to get more users. There is no reason for people to reject playing while earning a little bit of income on the side.

It's also one of the things that has a use case easy to experience and understand for many people. Plus there's big generation of lazy millenials that grew up with gaming that likes the idea of earning some coin while doing that ;-)

Its a nice game. But one word of caution, it takes up quite a bit of time and you will probably lose quite often when you start because you lack cards.
