I have a desktop that I use for more heavy lifting and modelling, and up till last week it sat close to my desk. Lately it was getting loud, or at least I was noticing it a lot more, so I switched up and set up my laptop like I used to when I was on site a lot, on a stand with my bluetooth, etc.

My stress dropped immediately

It is SO much quieter in the space I can actually think without having my noise cancelling headphones on. Part of the "stress" that I was feeling was the pressure that the noise cancelling adds to your ears.

Then I realized that I need to use a program that is locked on that computer, so I set it up in the far corner last night when I was finishing up so I would be able to remote into it today. When I walked into the office today I noticed that same stress once I walked in. I couldn't put my finger on it until I realized that it was the fan noise.

Its all the way on the other side of the office probably 7m away on the other side of a bookcase, etc.

Time for some Feng shui

I need to set up a server closet somewhere out of the normal living spaces. These fans are really doing a number on my mental health.

Do you have any ultra quiet computer setups?

If you have a very quiet computer setup I would love to hear some recommendations. I'm budget tight for the next 6-8 months, but by the fall I'm thinking of an upgrade of my desktop setup. By then the new GPUs and onboard 2.5gig (or maybe higher) will be available.
