Perhaps it’s time to give your home a much needed makeover, and your first start is to give it a fresh new lick of paint. However, choosing the right colour can have its challenges, so here are a few tips to make this process as smooth as possible.

Don’t choose your colour based on the swatch alone.

Paint a sizeable area in your room before committing to a particular paint colour. This way you will get a far better idea of the actual shade by living with it for a few days, determining whether the tint suits the room as well as the furniture and accessories.

Taking into consideration how the paint colour changes at different times of the day.

Light can change so much during the course of the day, so study your sample wall to see that you are satisfied with the paint colour in all lighting possibilities.

Have a plan for the rest of the room

Always choose your furnishings before choosing your paint colour. If you choose your colour first, finding fabrics, fittings and accessories to match may prove challenging.

Be careful of a colour that is too bright and saturated.

This does not mean avoiding bold colours altogether, however, try to avoid paint colours that are too intense for your walls. Rather stick with dusty shades of a bright colour for balance and perhaps keep the bright colours for a single wall statement or accent piece of furniture. Our experts at TrenDIY are always available to help you choose the perfect paint tint!
