RE: Why Proof Of Brain (POB) Is So Powerful

It's an interesting tag and I don't think there are any limitations on using the tag. So I have been putting it on my actual posts but the lack of liquidity on HE is a bad problem. There are just too many people buying and not enough people wanting to sell. It might be one of the tokens I might become a whale in (currently at 635 staked).

Nope no limitations as far as I know. being that it's fully POB means we as a community get to decide what to vote on or not.

That's part of the experiment, I guess. I don't see that as a problem per se.

This represents a problem in that people have been placing way too much emphasis on the token price; it is still very easily leveraged by large buys and sells (at the moment, buying sprees -- the price is currently being dominated by successive buying associated with 1 or 2 accounts).

I cannot blame the folks who are buying and hodling (I fit that description myself, though I have not been buying lately -- primarily because I don't want to artificially drive the price up, even though my account value would greatly benefit, on 'paper' anyways).

The real problem (imho) is folks hyping the tribe and the token based on the token price. It's not about the token price, it's about the value being added. That value is solid, at the moment. However, just as bitcoin can be replicated in a heartbeat by a simple hardfork, anyone can replicate POB at any time for a few thousand BEE.

The difference between bitcoin being hardforked and POB being replicated, though, is a hardfork of BTC leaves the current hodlers of BTC with an equivalent amount of NewBTC. However, on Hive-Engine, a replication of POB could leave the current hodlers of POB (myself included) with a bag of empty bits and bytes.

In the interest of transparency, I had plans to implement a "proof of brain" type token before POB was launched. That's part of why I became enamored with POB from Day 1 (actually, I think it was Day 3 when I first became aware).

I would still like to launch my own experiment in that regard. However, now I am in a sort of a dilemma; launching a competing token would diminish the value of my own POB hodlings. If I were strictly in it for the money, I wouldn't dream of doing such a thing. However, my drive for improving society through entrepreneurial value creation, and my belief that that happens through innovation and competition (which is what I teach my students week in and week out), might make that path just too hard to resist.

At the moment, though, my big focus is on improving the DHF -- hoping to bring some TRUE decentralization to a funding protocol that is currently (imho) decentralized in name only.

I hope to be posting my thoughts on that sometime soon (probably won't be until after the semester is over, in all honesty).

Great thoughts from you...obviously more demands and less supply is the reason why the POB price is growing so fast and that is a good development in my own opinion...@trostparadox

Those are some really good descriptions of what is currently happening. If you do open up a new token, I don't mind staking them as I get them. I think I'll put a link to your comment in the @leomarkettalk since people were talking about PoB there.

I just spent an hour or so writing a lengthy comment, then somehow caused my browser to think I hit the 'back' button and it wiped everything away. The comment editor desperately needs one of those "Are you sure you want to leave the page" warnings.

In any event, you can read some of my previous thoughts about a new proof-of-brain token here.

It's an interesting topic. I bookmarked the link so I can read it later (skimmed it) and so I can share on the next @leomarkettalk post. You might see some more comments in the coming days if people are interested.
